Tigers 8 Rangers 2

Well, after going 9-21, the Tigers have won their fifth straight, returning the beating the Rangers put on them a few weeks ago, in game one at least.

Like I said previously, I’m reluctant to start screaming about he merits of this team, five in a row is nothing to sneeze at.

At the center of the Tigers resurgence is, J.D. Martinez. Who is J.D. Martinez? Is he a revamped slugger that can fill one of the holes in the outfield, or his he guy the Astros released?

I don’t know the answer but he’s been able to put this team on is back and carry them out of the abyss.

I hope he’s the revamped slugger to studied Miguel Cabrera’s swing to take his game to another level.

I guess time will tell.

  1. Interesting tidbit in the D News about ASquared & his .340 OBP 3rd best on the team behind Cabby & Victor. Slot him #2 platoon Hunter & Davis we saw last night what happens when big bats have runners on I’ll dwell on this one. Still think pitching is the place where there biggest holes exist I can not figure out this pen.

  2. I agree his position in the lineup serves no purpose for high OBP, with nobody to drive him in.. One thing I would like to see AA do more is swing at the first pitch fastball.. Most baseball experts will tell you it’s likely the best pitch you’re going to see in the at-bat.. He finds himself in the 0-2 hole too often.. Good win, considering the shitty at-bats thru the first 6 innings, especially Miggy, and having 3 runners thrown out on the bases.. Texas sucks! and we should put a beating on them.. As much as JD has lifted the offense, the starting pitching is what drives this team. No coincidence they started winning when the starters put up good numbers..

  3. Sark, I agree about the pitching but I think the last few years, 2012 & 2013, the Tigers asked too much from their starters. the bullpen has and was horrible and the offense was way to streaky.

It’s hard for me to believe A Squared Money has a .348 OBS while he is hitting .230 and struck out 71 times.

The full formula is OBP = (Hits + Walks + Hit by Pitch) / (At Bats + Walks + Hit by Pitch + Sacrifice Flies).
