Indians 5 Tigers 2 (Game 2)

Nathan is horrible but the offense was worse.

During this four game losing streak the Tigers have scored a total of nine runs. That’s putting a lot of pressure on the pitching staff.

The pitching hasn’t been good either.

Max was ok. He only allowed two runs but the Tigers needed him to pitch deep into the game but he couldn’t make it through six.

I was at the game and it was one of the most irritating that I could remember. Max stood on the mound and allowed the Indians to foul pitch after pitch off and drive his pitch count up. As a result he had to leave after five and two thirds.

High pitch counts have plagued the Tigers pitching staff for a long time. For some reason they have a religious aversion to throwing inside. They allowed hitters to lean over the plate and send their pitch counts through the roof. Now add in an abomination of a bullpen and you begin to understand why the Tigers haven’t won the World Series since 1984 and probably won’t win this year.

I’m disgusted!

Smyly is on the mound tomorrow. I’m not optimistic.

  1. For those familiar with the Magnum roller coaster at Cedar Pt, we’re now on the downward side of the second hill..this is a smaller drop than the first larger hill… We hope.. Glad I haven’t had the chance to watch any of these games this weekend.. Although I caught the first inning tonight, and during the intro on Fox it was disclosed that Max was taken into the clubhouse after his oregano warmup due to something in his shoulder.. Ricky was actually sent down to warmup.. Not sure what ended up being wrong with Max but he didn’t appear to be throwing very hard in the first inning… Anyhow, the Tigers seem to be at their worst when they get big leads in this division and start believing in their coronation as champs… Don’t they ever learn from the past.. Now they’re probably going to get groomed at home…

    • Sark, I just finished watching the O’s and A’s on the MLB channel. After the Tigers scores scrolled by they noted that over the last four games, the Tigers bullpen has pitched 12 innings and allowed 11 earned runs. The only reliable arm out of the pen is Jobs. Now their offense blows too.

      I hate them!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!11

  2. Max allegedly had a shoulder “cramp” and Ricky was going down to warm up & take the start Don’t think with the exception of Victor I can write this off to rust. The Tribe wasn’t rusty and Joba wasn’t rusty our offense is AWOL and by the 31st there will be someone in the pen that can set up Joba or have closer experience or both I just hope it’s not to late!
