Connor McDavid…

of the OHL’s Erie Otters is out 5-6 weeks with a broken pinky.  He suffered the injury in a fight with the Mississauga Steelheads’ Bryson Cianfron.

McDavid has been putting up Gretzky-esq number this season and was projected to be the first or second pick the the 2015 NHL draft. In 18 games he has recorded 16 goals and 35 assists for 51 points and a +34.

I was looking forward to going to Sarnia next week to see McDavid play against the Sting.  I guess I’ll have to wait.

FYI: Based on the video above, it looks like McDavid can handle himself as well.

The Third Best Hull…

by Dennis Hull.

I’m reading this book on the plane on my way to work yesterday and couldn’t stop laughing at the exchange below between Dennis Hull and Chicago Blackhawks coach, Billy Reay.

” ‘What happened?’ Billy asked. ‘Did Jarrett get hit in the ankle again?’

‘No Billy, he got hit in the head.’ I replied.

‘Oh good.’ He said.”

The background to this is that Dennis Hull’s friend and teammate Doug Jarrett kept getting hit in the ankle by shots.  This time, however, he got hit in the forehead and was knocked unconscious.

I was laughing, almost out loud, for about five minutes after I read this.

Robert Gordon Orr

OK, I’m getting excited for hockey season. I found this youtube video of the great Bobby Orr. The only time I got to see Bobby Orr play was in 1978 as a member of the Chicago Blackhawks. My Dad took to me to Olympia Stadium to watch the Red Wings and Blackhawks play. The date was October 28th, 1978 and the Great Bobby Orr scored his last goal.

I hope you like this video.  It gave me chills.

OK, I’m Sorry…

I know this is a baseball blog and baseball is my true passion.  But I’m also passionate about the sport I grew up playing, hockey.  I like to tell people that I’m married to baseball but hockey is my girlfriend.  Anyway, I just saw this picture of Pavel Datsyuk on Facebook and I’m getting excited for hockey to start.

One thought led to another and I started thinking about my favorite youtube videos.  The video below shows the beautiful Larionov sisters, Alyonka and Diana, daughters of Red Wing and Hockey legend, Igor, singing Ave Maria in Red Square.

This thought led me to yet another.  The picture below is courtesy of Alyonka “Wonka” Larionov’s facebook page.  It is a picture of her, her sister Diana, and father Igor with the Stanley Cup.  It is so cute.  I reminds me of when my own nieces were little.

OK, back to baseball, I promise.  But I hope you enjoy.
