So that means its been about 85 years( actually 65 years counting Teddy Ballgame) that a player has hit .400. Even with the modern day lower mound and a strike zone the size of a catchers mitt. Not just because baseball is my favorite sport I say this. Baseball is the most difficult sport; requires the most skills and therefore has the best athletes; and is the greatest sport on earth. As Pete Rose put it, in baseball if you fail 7 out of 10 times(i.e. bat .300) for your career, you are in the Hall of Fame.
