Shane Greene needs to be given credit for over coming a rough first inning, in which he needed over 30 pitches to get through, and was able to tough out six good innings surrendering only two earned runs.  It looked like a short outing for Shane but he found a way.

Kudos to Jarrod Salty Saltalamacchia who hit an Arquimedes Caminero pitch into an absolute CONNIPTION for the go ahead granny.

Seven games in, the offense is impressive, the defensive is adequate, the pitching, both starting and pen has ben OK.

One more thing, I’m getting ready to call Anthony Gose’s proctologist to find out if he’s found Gose’s head.  What is he doing with his base running?  A few days ago he gets thrown out trying to steal third with Upton and Miggy coming up and yesterday he tries to stretch a single into a double by running on Andrew McCutchen. I’ll say it again, it hasn’t hurt the Tigers yet but it will.

The Tigers completed a mini two game sweep of the Cubs by pounding their pitching staff into a conniption for the second straight night.  There was a lot to like on offense, not the least which was Nick Castellanos’ two home runs, his second a grand slam.

I really like Tyler Collins.  He had a double in the eighth inning that drove in a run but what really impressed me was his ability to bunt runners to second and third in seventh.  He seems like he is a good guy to have off the bench. I remember his pinch hit home run in Cincinnati a few months ago. He seems like he can do things at the plate that not lot of other guys on this team can do.  He may not be an everyday player but like I said, a good guy to call upon when needed.  (I didn’t like the fly ball that fell between him an Gose in the eighth but I’ll give him a Mulligan for getting that bunt down.)

Fifteen runs today. Ten runs yesterday but no amount of runs makes me feel comfortable.

How about Miggy flashin’ leather at first?

It looks like Daniel Norris is done for the season with an oblique strain.

Just when I start bragging about Kinsler he makes two bone head plays at second.  I thought, for sure, the second one was going to blow up.

Two in a row.  A win tomorrow makes a winning streak.

Tigers 2 Royals 1

The bi-polar Tigers, behind new acquisition Matt Boyd, put in a masterful performance tonight and downed the Kansas City Royals 2-1 tonight at Comerica Park.

This game was the complete opposite of last night’s game. They got great starting pitching, executed on offense and flashed leather on defense.

Speaking of Flashin’ Leather, J.D. Martinez doesn’t get enough credit for the way he plays right field.  He made a catch in the ninth inning that looked like it was headed for the gap.  Physically, he doesn’t look like he should be a good fielder but he always seems to make nice, if not incredible, catches.

It’s either J.D. or Alex Wilson for team M.V.P. (Blaine Hardy could be a close third.)

How about Matt Boyd?  He out duels Johnny Cueto in his third career start going seven innings allowing only one run and walking ZERO!  Walking ZERO is the most impressive stat in my humble opinion.

Anthony Gose gets an honorable Flashin Leather mention for his catch in the ninth as well.

Two of the last three games the Tigers have sent rookies to the hill and they’ve delivered gems.  Let’s hope they can continue because I’m not sure what to expect from Sanchez, Simon, and Verlander.

I can’t say BIG win any more so I’ll say NICE win.

This was actually a pretty well played game.  It lacked offense but I like a pitcher’s dual once in a while;  just as long as I don’t have to tip my cap to every ham & egger toes the slab against us. Both Price and Tillman were smokin balls.  The Tigers should have cashed a run in the bottom of the first when they had a runner on third with one out but Tillman looked like a top of the rotation guy last night.

David Price gutted out seven impressive innings allowing a single run on a solo shot by Manny Machado while striking out 12 and walking 1. Alex Wilson did what he does and pitched a clean 8th. Krol got a LONG out to lead off the 9th. Then Rondon essentially put the game out of reach by giving up two runs.  He needs to a bus ticket south about an hour.

Rondon did not pitch well and I can’t and won’t defend him.  But Anthony Gose could have bailed him out by making a catch he makes 9 out of 10 times.

It seems like things just are not working out for this team.  It doesn’t seem to be in the cards.  Unfortunately, I listened to 97.1 for a few minutes yesterday and some blow hard was talking about how if he were a season ticket holder he would be offended if the Tigers traded David Price.  I am a season ticket holder and here’s what offends me, charging $10.50 for three chicken fingers.

I’m not sure what to say other than, I hate them. I’m tired of watching them. They have scored six runs in four games on this road trip. Granted they weren’t going to win this game giving up 12 runs but six runs scored in four games? Here are some observations:

Miggy doesn’t look as good as his numbers suggest. He rarely seems to drive in meaningful runs, with two-outs and the game close.

Nobody else, besides, Gose and Davis seem like they have a chance of reaching base.

Cespedes didn’t hustle after the ball hit in the corner in the fifth.

For a few innings I thought Farmer was going to settle in.

It has become very hard to watch this team every day.  They seem like they don’t care.  I need a few weeks off.

Not exactly an offensive explosion but I’ll take the win.  David Price was smokin’ balls. So was the pen.  I’m not sure what to say about the offense that I haven’t said 50 times already this year.  They blow. I’m glad to see Kinsler got the day off and with Romine leading the way with two hits give him another one.

Iglesias is starting to worry me.  He is very fragile.  Even the slightest contact sends him to the bench. I guess it is what it is.

Yankees 2 Tigers 1

I’m not tipping my hat to Tanaka or the Yankees bullpen.  Sanchez and the Tigers pen pitched fine.  The offense has to do something other than bounce into double plays and hit weak fly balls.

Miggy’s last at-bat to lead off the ninth was a microcosm of the Tigers offensive performance this entire series.  He took to fastballs down the middle and swung and some piece of garbage for strike three.  In fact, the Might Miggy was a one man wrecking crew today.  He contributed nothing offensively and couldn’t field McCann’s ground ball cleanly enough to turn two in the eight to keep the game tied.

This team makes me sick.  The only two that didn’t have their heads up their respective asses were Gose and J.D. Martinez.
