“…the negro should be accepted wholeheartedly and not grudgingly. The negro has the right to play professional baseball and who’s to say he does not.”
If you answered, Ty Cobb, you would be correct.
Apparently, the first time Cobb was asked about race was after he retired in 1953, when a reporter for the Sporting News asked him what he thought about the integration of the Texas League.
Check out Charles Leerhsen’s new book, Ty Cobb: A Terrible Beauty.
In episode 102 of From Brooklyn to the World, Paulie Malignaggi explains why.
In a nutshell, Paulie says, Conor became a bitch when he lost to Nate Diaz. Not because he tapped out, but because putting himself in a position to tap out was a way out of the fight, without making it look like he wanted out of the fight. Basically, Conor was getting the shit beaten out him and instead of standing up, taking his medicine and trying to win the fight; he got into a grappling match with a black belt in jiu jitsu. He knew he was going to get choked out but thought it was an easier way out than standing up and taking a beating.
Paulie said it was “quitting without quitting.”

…it’s Tim Tebow?”
Danny Terp asked Tim Tebow to say hi to his grandmother who is recovering from a stroke. He happily obliged. See his greeting and her response below.
This is a great picture.
Ok, I’ve been silent long enough. I am so disgusted with the Tigers, I can barely watch them. This team needs a wholesale change from top to bottom. I like BA but he has to go, so does Legendary Lloyd McClendon, Alex Avila Sr. and any player on the roster except for Michael Fulmer.
The bullpen has blown for as long as I can remember although it hasn’t been for a lack of trying. It just seems like no matter who they sign, or who they bring in, the results are the same. So it time for a different mindset and a different perspective.
Management has to take full responsibility for the putrid offense. This offense has been the same feast, mostly famine, garbage for at least as long as bullpen has been crappy. The problem I have with the offense is that there is never any change in strategy. They keep bringing in the same type of player, a lot of power but speed or average. It hasn’t been working and I’m not optimistic about sticking with the same plan. It has just gotten to the point that I struggle to watch them. If Tigers aren’t careful, I’m going to be a former season ticket holder and I won’t be buying their $7.00 pops anymore.
I’m very excited for the start of the NHL Playoffs tonight. I prefer to watch as many games as possible on CBC, channel 9, in my area.
Although I grew up hating the Montreal Canadians, I always loved hearing O Canada sung in french.
Jack White, from the White Stripes, has created a song called Battle Cry that Ian Kinsler is using for his walk up music.
Apparently, Kinsler and White became friends about a year ago and are now in the baseball bat business as investor is Warstic.
In honor of the wonderful job the Tigers Bullpen has done five games into the 2017 season, let alone the last 10 years, I’m starting a new twitter hashtag campaign, #NiceBullpen.
Bruce Rondon’s ERA is 40.50, is that good for your setup man? Fear not, he has run into some bad luck, opponents are only hitting .500 against him.
Kyle Ryan, Anibal Sanchez, Alex Wilson, and Shane Greene haven’t been much better.
