Not good enough.
David Price pitched 8.2 innings but allowed five earned runs, four before the Tigers got to bat. In the middle of a playoff race, on a team whose only strength is starting pitching, Price wasn’t good enough.
Continuing yesterday’s theme, Price is another guy that can’t be counted on. He seems to have one good start followed by a shitty start. Maybe he should pitch every 10 days.
I guess I have to resign myself to the fact that this team just isn’t good enough.

This was a flash from the past. For one game I was reminded of the Sports Illustrated cover, “Fear His Awesomeness”. Miggy looked like Miggy.
I know is wasn’t all about Miggy, up and down the lineup, from Kinsler to A Squared Money, just about everyone had a good day. And David Price was smokin balls for eight complete. But once again the Mighty Miggy was the story. Miggy went 4-5, with two home-runs, four runs scored and three RBIs.
Unfortunately, I think this game was an anomaly. I can’t believe that one or two days off cured what ailed “Fear His Awesomeness”. But it was nice to see a glimpse of the once Mighty Miggy.
I guess time will tell.
David Price did his best Robbie Ray imitation. He lasted 2+ innings and gave up eight runs.
By the time the Tigers came to bat in the third the game was over.
I knew in the first inning that Price was in trouble. Like the Blue Jays, a few starts ago, the Yankees made Price throw a lot of pitches, around 30 in the first inning. This start was a nightmare and not good enough.
The Tigers have a rookie pitching tomorrow and in one of two games on Saturday. This weekend is probably going to get ugly again.
Has anybody noticed how Smyly is pitching?
If there was a bright side tonight, the pen threw seven scoreless innings.
Oh boy!
I’d be more open to “tipping my hat” to the other pitcher if this didn’t happen so often. That being said, both pitchers threw a gem this afternoon. So hat’s off to both Alex Cobb and David Price
David Price was smokin balls. He pitched a complete game and allowed only one unearned run and got a loss for his effort.
The Tigers had chances to score but couldn’t come through with a big at-bat. The top of the seventh with Torii on third, and one out, comes to mind.
I wasn’t back on the bandwagon after the first two wins so I’m not that disappointed by today’s loss.
The Royals could be on a run like the Colorado Rockies were on in 2007.
We’ll see.

The Tigers got clutch hitting from an unlikely source, Alex Avila. Not only did A Squared Money hit the go-ahead home run in the 12th, but he had a clutch two-out single in the seventh, to tie the game.
David Price was good in his Tigers debut. He lasted 8.2 innings, struck out 10 and walked 0.
J.D. Martinez flashed some leather. He made a nice running catch in the 12th. J.D. has quietly made some nice plays in the outfield this season. Two running catches in K.C., right before the break, come to mind in addition to tonight’s catch.
Joba keeping Gardner off the bases in the the 10th was a key to winning this game. I had a bad feeling that Gardner would find a way to score had he gotten on.

Lost in all the excitement surrounding the acquisition of David Price is the fact that the Tigers lost the game and the series to the White Sox.
Although it’s hard not to be happy about getting a pitcher of the Price’s caliber I don’t exactly see how the weaknesses of the team were addressed.
Price replacing Smyly is an upgrade but what about the middle of the field? This might be one of the weakest teams up the middle in all of MLB.
Starting with Avila, the Tigers are weak at catcher, shortstop, and now center field. On top of that, the bullpen is still horrible.
Since the acquisition of Soria, the bullpen has gotten weaker. Soria, has been bad, Joba is now in a funk, or perhaps returning to who he is, and The Amazing Everyday Al has worn out his welcome. I guess on the bright side, if there is one, Nathan has been better and Blaine Hardy has been serviceable.
Who is going to play centerfield? DK? Davis? Maybe this was addressed but I just landed and haven’t had a chance to read everything.
On another note, I’m sad to see Ajax and Smyly go. I liked both guys. They seemed like decent people and Ajax has been on fire for the last six weeks or so.
I know it’s a business but I’m not sure the Tigers are a better team after the trade.
