Royals 2 Tigers 1

Well, losing the last three games in a row is never good, but the Tigers finished this road trip 4-6.  Not great, but not terrible considering the abominations that were the previous two road trips.

Zimmerman pitched well but the Tigers couldn’t hit.  Even after they got the devastating Chris Young out of the game, who historically dominates the Tigers, the bats couldn’t do anything.  Unfortunately given the state of the bullpen, I don’t like their chances in extra inning games.

Hopefully, they can have a good home-stand.  It won’t be easy with Seattle and Cleveland coming into town.

The J.D. injury may be devastating.

Blue Jays 7 Tigers 2

Well the winning steak ended at five.  The Blue Jays pounded Jordan Zimmerman for seven runs.  He didn’t have it today.

The home-stand was great, The Tigers went 5-2. I’m glad I wasn’t betting these games because it was a home-stand of surprises.

I didn’t think the Tigers would win the matchup on Saturday, Pelfrey against Sale.  I didn’t like the Sanchez/Boyd matchup yesterday and I would have bet the farm on Zimmerman against R.A. Dickey this afternoon.  I guess that shows how much I know, or don’t.

It is back to the road and let’s hope it is better than the last two.

Tigers 5 White Sox 2

The Tigers completed the sweep of the White Sox on Sunday with a 5-2 win at Comerica Park.

This team seems to be Doctor Jekyll and Mister Hyde and it seems to coincide with whether they are at home or not.  They seem to play well at home and not so well on the road.

What I really liked about this series is that they beat Chris Sale on Tuesday afternoon.  Sale is a perennial Cy Young candidate but they found a way to beat him.

More good news, Zimmerman, Pelfrey and JV all pitched well.

Let’s see what happens with the Blue Jays in town.

Detroit 9 Rays 4

Well, it appears that Miggy’s demise was greatly exaggerated. The Mighty Miggy has four homers in the last three games, including two conniption shots, and has his batting average up to .315 with an OBS of .925.

More importantly, after losing 11 of 13, the Tigers have now won 6 of their last 7 and are within a game of the .500 mark.

I am concerned with the injuries to Zimmerman and Miggy.  If either one misses an extended period of time, the Tigers could be in a lot of trouble.

Tigers 10 Twins 8

It wasn’t pretty.  It wasn’t easy. It was, however, a win.

This team is in a lot of trouble if they can’t field better than what they displayed on Monday night.  Three errors almost cost the Tigers a game in which they lead 8-0 after the first inning.

The pitching is what it is but the Tigers can’t afford to give any team extra outs.

One good sign is that K-Rod pitched another clean 9th inning for the save.  Perhaps he’s getting on track?

I’m not overly excited about the 10 run outburst.  I hope you’ll excuse me, but I’ve seen the show before.  Let’s see what they do the next 5-6 games.

A win is a win and I’ll take it.

Tigers 7 Pirates 4

This was a nice win and a nice four game series win.

The starting pitching was excellent as was the offense.  I’ll call out Jordan Zimmerman and Nick “The Quick” Castellanos. Also, I hope BA listens to Sark and decides not give Castellanos the day off tomorrow.

The bullpen was an abomination, nothing new here. Why can’t the Tigers ever right this ship?  I know it is only eight games in but we’ve been looking at the same pen for about eight years now.  The names have changed but not the results.

I’ll take the win.
