Sanchez can’t be allowed to give up the tying home run. I’m not saying things would have worked out any differently because on queue, just as I start to praise them, the pen collapses. But Ausmus has to take some blame for leaving Anibal in too long. I know he looked good in innings two through six but look at his season in total.  Pitching against any team other than the Twins he has been an abomination.  And his home runs allowed have been staggering.  This was was a tough loss to swallow.

I’m willing to bet that this is the worst four game series of Ian Kinsler’s career, all things considered.  At the plate he finished 1-17, including a triple play and a least one couple play. On defense he did make a nice play or two but was also responsible for two unearned runs. But looking at more than this series he still doesn’t have a home run and I’m beginning to think he needs to move down in the lineup.  Someone hitting in the second spot needs to get on base in front of Miggy, to state the obvious.

Ian Kinsler has had two games which can only be described as a nightmare.  Yesterday, he made an error that cost the Tigers two unearned runs and took an 0-4. Fortunately, J.D Martinez was able to bail him out. This afternoon, he wasn’t so lucky. He made a nice defensive play early but then completely demoralized the team by grounding into a game killing triple play in the fifth.  That’s right.  A TRIPLE PLAY!

Kinsler has been very disappointing this year.  It is time for the big money guys to start earning their money.

Speaking of big money, where in the sam hell is Verlander? How pissed would you be if you were paying a guy $30 million a year to do nothing? Every time I see hime in the dugout I want to puke.

It is time for me to tip my hat to the Amazing, Everyday Al. Nobody has been harder on him than me.  But he has been fantastic lately. He pitched an inning an two thirds and struck out four.

The pen is smokin’ balls!

It would be nice to get a series win tomorrow.

For the the third game in a row, a third clutch hit, a third unexpected, clutch performer. Tonight it was J.D. Martinez who hit a three-run homer to put the Tigers in the lead and bail Ian Kinsler out whose error in the top of the third lead to two unearned runs.

Kinsler had a bad night.  He was 0-4 to go along with his error.

Alfredo Simon picked up his fifth win and pitched well allowing no earned runs in seven complete.

Joba didn’t even look too bad today.

Somehow I’m feeling better than I did a few days ago although I’d feel a lot better if Miggy would start getting some clutch, two-out, RBIs.  But compared to where this team was on Wednesday, I’ll take it.

They still hit into to too many double plays.

I’m not sure how many times I’ll write this in 2015 but the Tigers’ won a battle of bullpens this afternoon in Minnesota.  Everyone they called on, Hardy, Nesbitt, Gorzelanny, Soria got the job done.

Starter Shane Greene was cruising until he wasn’t.  He starting leaking fuel in the third then exploded in the fourth.

The Tigers could have blown this game by running themselves out of a rally in the fifth. I’m not sure sure but isn’t it taboo to make an out at third?  Well, with runners at first and second, one out, and Kinsler at the plate, Andrew “Wheels” Romine decided it was a good idea to steal third.  Like Miggy in game in one, he got nailed, rally over. Fortunately, the bats came alive and beat the Twins’ bullpen into a conniption after falling behind 7-4.

For all of my complaining, the Tigers got another series win.

Of note:

  • Miggy hit two balls into a a conniption.
  • McCann had his first career HR, an inside the parker.
  • Victor was 0-5 and doesn’t look good from either side of the plate.
  • Wheels Romine was 4-4 but 1-3 in steal attempts (WTF).
  • Kinsler flashed some leather in the 8th to turn a nice double play.

Off to KC.  I hope this series doesn’t turn into basebrawl.

Tigers 2 Pirates 0

After almost two times through the rotation, Shane Greene is the ace of the Tigers staff.  He dispatched the Pirates lineup with the precision and efficiency of a Swiss timepiece. I really wanted him to get a chance to complete the game but I sort of understand the move to bring Victor in.  Speaking of Victor, he doesn’t like right to me.  Anyway, Greene needed only 81 pitches to get through 8 complete, scoreless, innings, a virtual masterpiece, albeit unfinished.

J.D. Martinez, Ian Kinsler, and Jose Iglesias all flashed some leather today and the Tigers got a win in a place where they don’t get many.

The offense left 10 men on base but we can cut them some slack. They scored enough for the W.

It would be nice for a series win tomorrow.

I like 7-1.

Well, this was almost a perfect game to start off the 2015 season.

David Price pitched 8.2 shutout innings and Joe Nathan got the final out, striking out Torii Hunter.

J.D. Martinez and Alex A Squared Money Avila went deep and Yoenis Cespedes was two for three with a double and a triple.

The Tigers flashed plenty of leather today as well. Cespedes, Iglesias, Kinzler Castellanos, and Miggy all had nice plays defensively.

I hope this is a harbinger of things to come for the 2015 Tigers but I can’t help wondering if Price and Cespedes are only here for half a season.

We’ll see.

All of the Tigers flaws were on display but it all started with Scherzer. He wasn’t nearly good enough. Although his final line was worse than he pitched he wasn’t good enough.

I could excuse his first inning but giving back the lead right after the offense tied the game was offensive.

I’m not even that mad about the 8thinning implosion. Anybody that was shocked by the defense and bullpen hasn’t been watching all season.

What really sent my blood pressure through the ceiling was the final out of the game. I was under no delusion, the Tigers weren’t coming back, but what they could have done was irritate the Orioles by scoring a few runs and stretching their bullpen.

With two outs, Tigers loaded the bases. Kinsler the struck out but the ball got away from the catcher. Everybody ran except Kinsler. He could have easily made it to first. A run would have scored and the inning would have been kept alive for Hunter. But Kinsler refused to run. Who in the sam hell does he think he is? A few runs wouldn’t have meant much today but it may have created a better atmosphere for tomorrow.

Kinsler’s antics are the biggest reason the Tigers will be golfing next week. Only a few of them seem to give a shit. Like Fielder last year, I hope Kinsler isn’t in a Tigers uniform next year.

Not this again. Just when I was starting to praise the offense they play a game like this.

Ian Kinsler was a one man offense sabotage unit. He was 0-4, reached on an error in the first, was promptly thrown out trying to steal second. Then he killed a rally by bouncing into a double play in the third.

To show you the sorry state of affairs, the Tigers lead-off man, Kinsler, is hitting .273. His OBP is .305 and he has struck out 77 times. The worst part is, he’s the best the Tigers have.

A great outing by Kyle Lobstein went to waste and to make matters worse, the Royals won.

The Tiger survived terrible fielding by Ian Kinsler and Eugenio Suarez, and terrible relief from Joba and the turd, and squeezed out a narrow victory in KC.

The win increased the Tigers lead to 2.5 games in the AL Central.

A few things to note:

  1. I think this is the first time I’ve seen a starting pitcher, who wasn’t injured, ask to come out of a game. Is Scherzer just playing for his contract as it has been suggested on this site? It appears so,. For as horrible as JV has been I have never seen him ask to come out of a game. In fact, JV reminds me of Jack Morris, who had a conniption anytime he was removed.
  2. I’m starting to like Tyler Collins.
  3. I’m beginning to question the value of replay. Baseball headquarters said that the play where Perez didn’t tag up was not reviewable. Really? Why?
  4. Romine has to be the regular shortstop. Neither he nor Suarez is much of a hitter, but Suarez looks like an asshat in the field.

Joba and Nathan were not good. That’s why the Tigers need the starters to go as deep into games as humanly possible. Any started that would willingly give way to this bullpen deserves his fate.

How long is this team going to sick with Nathan? Does he have cost the Tigers a Pennant or World Series for BA and DD to admit they made a mistake?

Is this team better since the David Price trade?

Every Other Start Price was horrible today.

In crunch time the starters have decided to pack it in. The strength of this team has become another weakness. The best Tigers starters down the stretch have been Freeway Ricky and Kyle Lobstein. JV, Scherzer, and Price, have been bad.

I can’t complain at all about the offense, except for Kinsler, they have been mashing the ball but what was Hunter doing in the seventh? The Tigers got away with bad base running on the home stand but it shot them in the foot today.

As much as it hurts me to say, this team doesn’t deserve to make the playoffs.
