2015 MLB All-Star Game

After 40 years of watching baseball I still love the MLB All-Star Game.  The 2015 MLB ASG will be held in Cincinnati.  Hey, maybe I should make the trip down.  I love Cincinnati. Perhaps I can swing by Jeff Ruby’s but I digress.  Anyway, if you are so inclined here is a link to the ASG ballot.

Please be sure not to vote for any Giants or Red Sox, save Freeway Ricky.  Hey, Remember when Ricky beat Youk into a conniption?

Freeway Ricky Cashes In

The Boston Red Sox have given Freeway Ricky Porcello a $82.5 million extension.

Readers know I’m a huge Freeway Ricky fan.  I was sad to see him go and I was worried about how he would fit in with the Red Sox.  There are still a few players left that witnessed a very young Freeway Ricky beat Youk into a conniption.

Apparently my worries were unfounded.

Bravo Freeway Ricky!

Orioles 7 Tigers 6

“Insanity: doing the same thing over and over again and expecting different results.”

The Tigers bullpen has been its Achilles heal for the past four years. The genius Dave Dombrowski, has done nothing to remedy the issue.

Oh, I know he made a half hearted attempt with the acquisition of Soria. But he knew Soria didn’t work out almost immediately and did nothing.

The TBS broadcast showed a statistic of the Tigers bullpen ERA during the last three post seasons. It wasn’t pretty. If I’m not mistaken, the 2011 ERA was over eight. Dennis Eckersley made the comment that the pen has been the single reason the Tigers haven’t won the World Series. (No kidding.)

For some reason, Ausmus keeps sending out the same parade of idiots. I know, ‘what can he do? That’s all he’s got’. I thought you’d never ask. How about leaving Sanchez in for the 8th or how about Kyle Lobstein? How about Porcello? Anybody but Soria, Chamberlain, Coke, Nathan, et al.

Now JV wasn’t good. I thought the home plate umpire was a joke but JV wasn’t good. He got picked up by his offense and Anibal Sanchez who was brilliant.

Do you remember a few months ago when I said third base coach Dave Clark was the second worst third base coach in the history of baseball behind Tom Brookens? I was wrong. He’s worse than Tommy Brookens. His asinine send of Cabrera in the eight with nobody out proved to be a dagger in the heart.

Given the deficiencies this team has it is a wonder they have won four division titles.

I’m sick.

Twins 11 Tigers 4

Uh oh!

This game was over before it started. I don’t know what is up with Freeway Ricky but he has been horrible lately. Not only is he giving up hits but the extra base hits, double and home-runs, is very concerning. That being said, he didn’t get much help from Rajai Davis or Nick Castellanos.

On the first pitch of the game, Danny Santana hit a long fly ball to straight-away center field. Davis came in, then went back, then turned the wrong way. Santana ended up on second. A good center fielder would have made the catch.

If the Tigers make it past the wild-card game, Castellanos cannot start at third. He is an abomination. He is directly responsible for four of the Twins’ eleven runs yesterday. He isn’t doing anything at the plate either. In fact, the Tigers aren’t getting much from the 6,7 or 8 hitters.

I have a bad feeling the Tigers’ season is going to be over Tuesday. The Royals are not going to lose to the White Sox and I’m not sure the Tigers will win the last two against the Twins.

I hope I’m wrong.

Royals 5 Tigers 2

I know they can’t win them all but today was very disappointing. It almost looks like they took the day off.

Freeway Ricky was very disappointing. It seems he has the same ailment that David Price has, one good start, one bad start. I’ve noticed that Ricky doesn’t do a good job of adapting. If he gets ambushed early, it doesn’t seem like he has a plan b. For that matter, shouldn’t Jeff Jones have a plan b?

The offense blew today.

Basically, the Tigers got what they deserved, a loss. One hundred and fifty five games into the season, nothing is settled in the Central.

Twins 4 Tigers 3

After absolutely sucking for eight innings, the Tigers offense, behind J.D. Martinez’s three run homer, rallied to take the lead in the ninth.

The turd came on in the ninth and blew the game but did he? Readers know how little I think of Joe Nathan, and he deserves to be chastised for giving up a one out walk in the ninth, but WTF Ezequiel Carrera? If he holds Suzuki to a single there’s a chance the Twins don’t score at all.

I think this loss is the chickens coming home to roost. The turd has been getting away with walks and bad pitching for about a month. It had to catch up with him. Also, Brad Ausmus’s stupid substitutions came back to bite him as well.

I understand pinch running for Miggy but Carrera didn’t have to go in for defense. But BA insists on emptying his bench at the first opportunity.

And why take J.D. out of the game? You have a one run lead going into the ninth and you take two of your three best hitters out of the game? Are you that confident in Nathan? If you are, you’re the only one.

FYI: Since the all-star break, Freeway Ricky has a sub three ERA and a 3-6 record.

Royals 3 Tigers 0

Freeway Ricky just can’t get that 16th win. While he hasn’t been smokin’ balls, other than the Giants game, he’s pitched well enough win.

Yesterday, he pitched 6.2 and gave up two runs on seven hits. The problem was the offense could manage only two hits off of Big Game James Shields and nothing off of the the Royals pen.

Normally, 2 out 3 is good, but in the middle of this race, with this Tigers team, I’m not so sure.

As Nebraska says, “we shall see.”

Giants 8 Tigers 2

Horrible. Freeway Ricky was a nightmare. He started off bad and got worse. I’m never an apologist for the offense but they never had a chance. The defense was no help but this was the worst I’ve seen Ricky pitch in a long time. There were some hits off of good pitches but he still got hit hard.

A contending team just cannot have this kind of inconsistency throughout the lineup. The offense is very streaky and the starting pitching has become the same way. The Tigers have the last three Cy Young winners and they can’t count on any of them every fifth day.

I’m pissed and I’m beginning to hate them again.

Tigers 5 Yankees 2 – All Hail Freeway Ricky

The Freewayman was smokin balls again tonight. He picked up his 15th win of the season. He didn’t go the distance but he lasted eight complete. The only blemishes are the two home runs he gave up Ellsbury.

J.D. and Torii led the way offensively.

Quietly, Castellanos and Suarez have started to look a lot better at the plate.

I don’t understand the defensive replacement tonight. DK in for J.D.? J.D. provided much needed offense, including a two out RBI. Additionally, a three run lead is hardly safe with the turd in to close.

I’ll take the win.
